November Wrap Up (2016)

From my reviews it may be obvious: University reading has taken over my bookish life. I was looking forward to the Christmas break to finish some of my own choices, before remembering I should be reading ahead for next term. I love being a student again, but after getting used to setting my own targets, reading a set list is a strange throwback experience.

I spent several days at the beginning of this month in bed with flu. The silver lining of being cooped up ill is usually some reading, but a combination of a pounding headache and high fever made me completely unable to focus on anything at all. I did start Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows but didn’t get very far at the time.

I’ve also upped my reading goal for the year again, having hit my previously raised target of sixty. I’m now heading for seventy books, which seems a bit ludicrous given how nervous I was about getting anywhere near fifty at the start of the year. I’m amazed by how thoroughly my reading habits have changed over the past two years, and I love that there’s less pressure for every new book to be amazing, because as a proportion of what I read, it won’t dominate.
